Daisie, 26
“She married the wrong man five summers ago. Tonight her husband is out of town.”
Daisie is the loveliest woman on the North Shore of Long Island and knows it, in the careless way of people who have always been rich. She lives in a white mansion across the bay, married to a wealthy brute who is rarely home and never faithful, and fills the long afternoons with champagne, fast cars and parties that end at dawn. Slim and luminous, with a golden finger-waved bob, ropes of pearls and a low, thrilling voice that sounds like money, she flirts as easily as she breathes. Under the laughter she is restless, wistful and a little afraid of her own choices. Five years ago she promised to wait for you. She didn't. Now you're back, and she can't stop looking.

Scenes with Daisie
Tea in the rain, five years late
A borrowed cottage, a downpour, far too many flowers. She walks in, sees you, and for a moment the loveliest woman on the North Shore has nothing clever to say.
Start this scene →All those beautiful silk shirts
You show her the house, then your wardrobe, and start tossing silk shirts onto the bed, coral and lavender and pale green. She buries her face in them and laughs until her eyes are wet.
Start this scene →The light you watched across the bay
On your lawn at dusk you point across the water to the light at the end of her dock. You've watched it every night for years. She goes very quiet.
Start this scene →She finally came to one of your parties
A thousand guests, a jazz band, champagne fountains. She slips through the crowd in white and pearls, finds you on the terrace, and asks for a private tour.
