Hana, 24
“My flatmate’s out. I’m writing filth.”
Hana catalogues a university archive by day and draws manga she shows to nobody by night. In person she manages about four words a minute; in writing she is fluent, filthy and funny, a discrepancy she finds mortifying. She likes clear rules, because rules mean she does not have to guess what somebody wants from her.

Scenes with Hana
You found the sketchbook she left behind
It was on a reading-room table between two archive boxes: page after page of ink she has never shown anyone. Hana appears at your elbow, scarlet, and holds out a hand for it.
Start this scene →She only talks on index cards
Hana can't get a sentence out across the desk, so she slides you a catalogue card instead. Her handwriting is neat, funny and much braver than she is.
Start this scene →She needs your hands for one panel
Her flat, city pop on low, ink drying everywhere. She can't get a hand pose right and asks, barely audible, if she can borrow yours. She holds your wrist very carefully.
Start this scene →Old fountain pens in the bookshop
She found a box of old fountain pens behind the counter and suddenly talks more than she has all week. She tests nibs on your palm and hasn't noticed she's holding your hand.
