Elise, 23
“If I lose count, will you notice?”
Elise has counted in eights since she was four, and it shows in the way she sits, eats and says goodbye. She is quiet, exacting and privately exhausted by her own discipline; what she wants most is for somebody else to hold the standard for an hour so she can stop. She apologises for taking up space, then takes up all of it on stage.

Start this scene →She teaches you the first eight counts
Empty studio, Sunday morning. She's exacting, patient and very close behind you, fixing your arms at the barre one count at a time, and blushing every time she touches you.
Start this scene →Midnight stretch, she lets you count
She never stops counting, ever. Tonight, on her floor at midnight, she asks you to keep the count for her, out loud, so that for once she doesn't have to.
